You really need to play the instruments before you commit to anything, to see what is for you. I have successfully played Mirafones before, but personally the Conn is more of my cup of tea. The intonation tendencies of each instrument are different, and some will swear by one or the other being better in-tune. However, instruments don't play in-tune, but people can. My personal experience, I can stop the tuner dead-in-its-tracks somewhat easier with the Conn than with a Mirafone of any type.
If the Conn has 4 long-action valves and an upright bell, it is either a 34J or a 36J. In the latter 30's, the 34J was available with a detachable upright bell.
Try some horns, and keep your options open until you find the right one.
