I have many fond memories of poking around Alviso and parts of Fremont in the southernmost part of the bay, before development went crazy and Alviso got its streets paved. I don't know if it's true anymore, but you used to be able to hike the SP tracks out to a sinking-into-the-mud ghost town (Drawbridge) out there. I believe the town's primary reason for existence was a saloon and bawdy house on the SP passenger line.
