The original King tuba, the 1240 and 1241 models had a detachable 22" upright bell and/or a 22" recording bell. When King came out with the 2341 model, among other minor changes, the upright bell size was changed to 19".
I have a 1241. Many years ago I replaced the original 22" bell with the 2341 19" bell because the large bell was a hassle. I was always bumping into things (or people) with it. The 19" bell works just fine and my horn fits into a gig bag now.
For any 1240 or 1241 owners out there, I also replaced the water catcher loop on the 3rd valve slide with the 2341 tubing arrangement and had the 1st valve tubing changed so it can be adjusted from the top.
