Ok, honestly-

Just bring in a trumpet, trombone, french horn and tuba. Explain how they are played, and the principles of playing a brass instrument. Talk about the length of the horns and how the valves work. You could even prepare an overhead of diagrams of piston and rotor valves (available from The Art of Tuba and Euphonium by H. Phillips and A. Jacobs). You could also bring mouthpiece disinfectant and several junk mouthpieces and let everyone try to make a sound. I think it would kill at least fifteen minutes.

Don't pay attention to the history of tropes and the influence on all music or how Phillip Glass changed your life. Honestly.
