Even if the silver PT6 is a great great horn
and its in pristine condition as well, the "deal" you describe
gets your teacher top value for his horn
and low-balls the value of yours.

More to the point the PT may sound so great and all that,
but is your M-W really limiting your playing now?

I.M.O., as a college freshman, if you have a good horn and your level
is not being limited by your axe, there are probably better ways
to invest 5-6000 dollars (if you have that cash in hand.)

I.M.O., and more to the point,
if you have a good horn and are not limited by it
there is NO GOOD REASON ON EARTH TO GO INTO DEBT
for 5-6 grand to get a super deluxe pro axe.
When you DO need a better horn down-the-road
there will ALWAYS be better horns available to you then.
