Leadpipes

My CB tuba plays somewhat flat throughout. It has quite a short main slide so I don't wanna shorten that. My Q is whether the leadpipe is an acceptable area for shortening a tuba?

Presumably most 'cut' (BBb - CC) horns end up with a shorter pipe? I am looking to lower the position of the receiver anyway, so I figure this is a good idea?!? I figure by having a much flatter pipe (not "S" shaped) and not wrapping so far around the bell I might cut around 1-1/2" or 2". Enough to make a difference on a BBb yeah?

I know leadpipes can affect the response and so on, so what is the done thing? I'd like to keep the original pipe for reversability and fit a new one. Is it usual to get a straight length of tubing and draw-out the correct taper, then bend appropriately to fit??

Is this difficult to do? I aint doing it myself but just wonder about cost...

Thanks all!
