When I shipped, I was 29, and had an age waiver because I was over the 28-year-old mark. If I remember correctly, I wouldn't have been able to get a waiver at all if I was over 34.
I wasn't the oldest, either -- there was another recruit in the company who was 32. The second-oldest recruit in my platoon was just three months younger and formerly a businessman with a corner office and several layers of management underneath himself. He said that he was getting bored, and wanted a change. Guess he got it, huh? lol
