You know how you can breathe while chewing food? Just replace the food with a mouthful of air.

The real trick is smoothing out the switch between "mouth air" and "chest air".

Brasses -- not just tubas -- are generally at a disadvantage because of how much difference in sound the oral cavity makes (it's really hard to avoid making the sound go "oooaaee" as the mouth expels its air). It's just easier to make a consistent tone color on woodwinds. Didjeridus, of course, work best with a wide variety of vowel sounds.

After that, try using it in moving passages where a change in tone might not be noticed as easily.

I had to circular breathe when I was effectively the only euph in college band (there was one other, but she was... let's just say "ineffective"). I also had to use the principle to get fresh air while playing oboe in double reed class -- I'd exhale, then inhale, while holding notes.
