For me, it doesn't matter so much where a tuba player is from. It's either pleasing to me or not, so I guess it matters more where I'm from.
A pleasing sound for me-and one I try to make- will have warmth, depth, energy(spin) and a maturity/tearful quality.
I am less impressed by players who sound like they've never had their heart broken but can execute a million notes a minute like a computer chip.
I think the best sounds come from people who spend time listening to lots of singers and non-tubists and can move large amounts of slow, warm air.
