Usually the reason for the double flat has nothing to do with the playing of the music (yes, A is correct) but rather is a tool of the music type setter. You will probably find an A (Flatted by the key signature) later in the same measure. If the type setter had written the B double flat as an A natural, he would have then had to put an accidental flat on the subsequent A because the first A would have made all A s in the measure natural. It's usually a labor saving device for the type setter. If you notice other music in flats, occasionally you will find a lower note sharped to keep from having to do the same thing later in the measure. Hope this helps, Jim Tyler
