If the thought would be that the effective length of the instrument is determined by the position of the venturi in the mouthpiece and that given the same over all length a shallower cup means that the venturi is farther back in the bore...... I'm just not buying it- with due apologies. (and I always figured the lips to be the terminus) If there is some other explanation I haven't considered (pretty darned likely) I'd be grateful if you could expound upon it.
