Isn't it interesting how todays instruments are infinitely better, financially available, and plentiful, yet the performances on those "old" recordings of high school bands and honor bands are still very often superior to those heard on today's recordings?

Where in Tennessee were you from? I was in the 1974 band...Col. A. Gabriel conducted. We rehearsed on the dance floor of the "Skyway" at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis...performed in the old South Hall of the Arena. Saturday, my "middle child" (horn) is playing in this year's - over in Nashville at the War Memorial Auditorium.
