I haven't used a scope, but you can do a good job with a dental mirror and a flashlight. I use one of the cheap small plastic mirrors and heat and bend the mirror neck to get the correct viewing angle. You can also get inspection mirrors at auto parts or specialty tool stores, but put some tape on them so you don't scratch up the casing looking for the best viewing angle. Just pull out the valve next to the one you want to align, put the mirror down the open valve and look at the adjacent valve through the port holes. Is the valve in the center of the opening or more towards the top or bottom? Now push the valve down and see if it completely blocks the hole. With a little practice and knowledge of your own horn, plus felts, corks and a razor blade to trim them, you can usually get them lined up in about an hour. The viewing angles are not always perfect, but I have always been able to make the horn better than it was when I started. I hope this helps.
