Have you considered just removing your thumb ring and throwing it away? I struggled with my 822 F hand position for a year and then just had the ring taken off altogether. It feels much more natural to play now, and I've found that not only did I not need it, it was actually hindering my performance.
I can't honestly see why we need thumb rings on tubas at all.
You might want to try it for a few days to see what you think.
