That's what I did. I picked a horn based purely on how it played regardless of any preconceived notions (at least, I hope I left preconceptions out of it), and ended up choosing silver.
On the practical side, it's easier to make repairs on a silverplated horn. Raw brass is probably the easiest, of course, but between the protective finishes of silver & lacquer, it's much harder for a repair newbie like me to screw up a silver finish than lacquer.
