My experience is that once music has got you, you might as well give into
and do nothing else. I started in music at the college level right
after high school, then switched to Nursing after only a year in music.
I can't say that Nursing was a bad thing, but seven years later I'm back
in music and wishing I had stuck with it. I know that my journey into
another career has brought a lot of positive things to my life, but for
me-- music is it. I thought I could do all the things I really loved to
do with music if it wasn't my career, but I was wrong. The only way for
me to go at it is full-time. About the family thing -- I've got two boys
aged 3 and 4 1/2, and I'm a single dad. Family life WILL happen if
it is meant to. I wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck, let me
know what you decide and if you have any questions, feel free to ask
