Personally I agree with Leland that a full breath through the mouth is preferable. I used the word "May" as there have been great players, like Mr Bell, who did the sniff breath. I did not want to say there is only one way. I don't use a sniff breath or circular breathe and don't sound anywhere like Mr Bell in his prime. He used a different technique. I guess the old saying "different strokes for different folks" applies here.
