I think the Meinl Weston Model 2145 tuba is a good quintet horn. I have played one in my brass quintet since Christmas, 1998 and have had nothing but compliments over its sound.
The intonation and valves are excellent. It does require a fairly large mouthpiece to get the most out of the horn (I use a modified Bach 12 design).
