hello I disagree with Sean in that to my ear silver plated tubas definitely have a bit more edge or brightness to the sound. I think the reason being that the silver plate is much thinner and lighter than the coat of paint (lacquer) that is sprayed on. My tuba euph quartet has two euphonium players both playing bessons same model and even the same vintage, but the silver horn definitely has more definition. I prefer silver tubas and euphs personally. ken k
