I used a Bach 18 all through college and still use it to this day. It has an excellent combination of quality sound production, good response, and solid intonation. Of course, you have to match the mouthpiece to the tuba so you should try one out on your tuba first. By the way, the Schilke Helleberg II you mention doesn't have to be an expensive purchase. R & S Mouthpieces makes a copy for $59.00 or $79.00, available through the Woodwind & Brasswind. Happy hunting!
