With a compensating system, the lower register on euphonium is greatly improved in intonation like the difference between a standard four valve BBb and a Besson compensating BBb. All the pedal tones are easily hit with the compensating system as they are played the same as an octave higher + the fourth valve( i.e. pedal C is 1-3-4, pedal B is 1-2-3-4, and pedal D is 1-2-4). Intonation is almost perfect whereas in a standard top action four valve you have to play with different fingerings to find what's in tune and do a lot of slide pulling and mouth adjusting. Hope this helps.
