Denis Wick (Boosey & Hawkes) might also produce tuba practice mutes. I use a Wick euphonium practice mute if I have to. When I first started taking lessons with my current teacher (last fall), I was using the mute pretty regularly. After listening to me play for the first several minutes of the first lesson, his first comment was, "You practice with a practice mute, don't you?" Since then, I use it only as a last resort. I have worked hard to find alternate place to practice and my sound has improved as a result.
