As Astro (from the Jetsons) would say, rottsa ruck on this one.

The DGG recording with Barenboim is long gone and was only released on record - no CD. Mr Jacobs was not pleased with this recording as they did it unrehearsed and rushed through the recording.

Another recording was issued on CD by the CSO as part of a collection of soloists from the CSO. It was a recording of the live performance of October 1978 with Henry Mazer conducting. This is a much better recording and was done on CD. This was a limited production run and is long gone. The CSO and Symphony Store have none left - don't even try.

As far as the Strauss, Mr Jacobs recorded the first horn concerto with the Director's Band at Gunnison, Colorado in the early 60's. The recording was by Century Recordings who, during this era made custom recordings not sold in stores. This one is rare.

So what can you do? Not much. There is talk about coming out with a tribute collection possibly with some of this but it has not really evolved from the talk stage. Again, quoting Astro, ray runed (stay tuned)!

Looking for a great VW recording - John Flethcher's has been re-released along with one of the VW symphonies on CD.
