I think that how the naked lady thing works is like this. Around the 1940s (maybe earlier..maybe sooner..I'm not absolutely sure), Conn employed a bunch of guys as engravers to engrave the bells of their horns. At this time, these guys would engrave the "naked ladies" on the bell of the horns. It's said that the ladies are usually modeled after a wife or girlfriend or whatever. I've played some restored "naked lady" sousas, and was very pleased with the sound, intonation, etc. as compared with the UMI era Conn 20K sousas.
I'm sure that I've left somehting out of this story, and there are folks that use this BBS that are far more knowledgable than I that can fill in the holes. But, I think that's thte jist of it.
