Absolutely "tongue in cheek"! One of their funniest, (to me, anyway) tracks is "Winchester Cathedral" complete with chimes, recorder obligato and "band vocal" complete with "voh-de-oh-dos". I learned quite a few dixie standards from their records which included the verses so often deleted by others.
