Another option, if port being portable isn't much of a concern, is a dual deck CD burner with mic inputs on it. I've got an RCA that ran me about $350. You can do your recording on a CD-RW, in case you want to edit it, then burn it to a CD-R, which is playable in all CD players.
Does anyone else work with a set up like this?
