"Seventeen Come Sunday" (a movement from the Vaughan Williams Folk Song Suite) has a great tuba (etc) solo which jumps around a lot. That is to say, the tune descends tonally and then leaps up an octave. My theory is that it was written with 3 valve instruments in mind (and without the benefit of false tones!). So when I play it, I believe it's musically valid to play the higher parts 8vb.

Is this piece performed in the US? If not, it should be!
