(Bill Cosby style) Let me tell you a story. There was this all state group here and had a composer come as a guest conductor and compose a fanfare for the group. When they were rehersing, out of maybe 3 or 4 tuba players, they had these 2 17 year old prodigies in the top two chairs, and one section of the fanfare you play a low D below the bass clef loud. Well during rehersal, they blasted a pedal D because they thought it would add to the piece of aggressiveness. I'm sure it did, but then the composer told them not to do that because he didn't want that, even though he DID listen to their suggestion. Well, it was the night of the concert. Probably a few storm clouds and a gargoyle perched on top of the concert hall...........when they performed this fanfare that night, the two prodigies decided to, using a shift, and play the pedal D and blasted it anyways. Needless to say these guys got in a little trouble by the man. And they lived happily ever after.
