In a recent on-board exchange of thoughts with Dr. Young I used the expression, that the human ear was the best equaliser ever made (pedal note thread).
From the trombone list I got a link for an article on the achievements on trombone by a fully deaf school kid.
Found it most interesting. And at least somwhat in line with my own thoughts.
Sadly I must admit, that I 20 years ago refused to take a similarly handicapped boy as a student on cornet. My single relief of conscience is, that this student had a confirmed lack of sense of accurate pitches. And he was not enjoying the benefits of a transplanted device. He went to the piano, because of the less acute sense of intonation there, but did not achieve much.
