Taking tuba pictures

I have noticed that a lot pf the pictures of tubas that are shown on the web are often distorted, making the bells look too small. When taking pictures of tubas, many people distort the shapes of the horns by taking the shots while standing too close to the horn. For example, when taking a picture of a horn from the lower end, standing too close makes the bell look too small and its outward curvature too flat and abrupt. Being too close and shooting above the bell makes the bell look too big and the bottom too small while still giving the same curvature problem. Shooting level with the bell gets the bell shape right but will distort the bottom a bit.

The solution is to back away from the subject a bit and zoom in with a telephoto, which minimizes foreshortening. It's usually better to shoot from the middle of the horn up rather than from the bottom. After all, would we pictures of us taken with our bottoms as the most prominent feature?
