You might want to try starting with a single not on your horn and trying to sing a fifth to it. Once you hit that on the head, try 3rds, then singing scales over the note played - mayor, minor, anything, in increasing difficulty-levels. (By this point we´re talking about months allready, mind you). Next come parallel 5ths, 3rds and so on, meaning played pitch and pitch sung move in a parallel fashion. With all this more complex stuff start with slurring your voice, later trying to hit the note you want right on.
