The 6/4 Yorkenstein that Dave Fedderly had at the Army conference was marked at $11,000, and it had a brand-new Nirschl valveset and a fresh coat of silver. Chuck G is selling, on behalf of a known professional, a CC coverted York for $12,000. Unless aesthetics are abandoned, this horn is going to make a big hole in someone's pocket. The buyer, however, is clearly not a commercial concern, and may well be intending to use the horn for himself.

We shouldn't wonder that someone was willing to pay over $6000 for this instrument, but that someone else was willing to get into a bidding war with them to force the issue. And up to $5000 it was still a three-way horse race. That tells me that the fair-market value of a three-valve 6/4 BBb York, in rough shape, is about $6100--the second bidder's amount.
