here is what I teach my students. most are young, so i am mostly pushing slurred and legato articulations so they get use to blowing air and connecting notes. I teach DOH when we get to articulation. here is how I explain it:

D-places the toungue on the soft pallet, and is a soft, smooth, easy syllable which is easy to control the air release.
O-puts the mouth in an O formation, with the jaw as low as possible.
H-air release and follow thru, shaping the ends of notes to end phrases nicely.

combine these three things, and you can develop some really smooth playing. It fits in what I do, so I can get youngins to do it. Hope this helps.
