anon,
I'm now 44, so my wisdom teeth started coming in about 30 years ago. Several dentists have suggested that I have them out, and I suspect that their main motivation was financial. At times I have played with more pressure than humans ever should, and those wisdom teeth have helped hold everything together until I was wise enough to do better. They require special care to keep decay away, but I think that maintenance is much better than oral surgery. If your wisdom teeth are in good condition, removing them would be like cutting the 4th valve off you horn, "just in case it goes bad"!
