hi,
Tony is right, the best, least complicated way to do it is read down a step and add two flats. (While still reading in treble clef.) I did it this way for a year and a half, and got used to it quickly. It really helped reinforce all my transpositional skills, so it will be great for you as a musician! Eventually, you'll look at a written C and be able to think B-flat without thinking... (makes sense huh? (: )
Good luck with the band! Brass band is a great workout and gives you the chance to play some fun licks in a band setting, yes, even on contrabass tuba parts!
