Yes, of course the Conn 52/56j is worth of a protective case!

To clarify, most of us on this BBS shop for a horn based on how it plays, features, valves, etc, etc. Very few of us make the horn selection based on whether or not a case is available as a package deal w/ the horn.

That is not to say we don't intend to get a case for it!

OTOH, UMI has been (tuba-wise, anyhow) geared almost exclusively in previous decades to the school market, rather than the individual performer. School Tubas have to have a case available if schools are gonna buy & the cases are affordable because they sell tons of them.

With the recent return to proline stuff (the Conn CC's), it seemed reasonable to put the horn on the market, knowing that the purchasers of these instruments might not buy the case anyway; low production volume would likely make the case pricey, relative to others. UMI cases are outsourced, so they likely have to agree to buy a big number before they go into production.

I'll bet that as soon as the new 2341 is in full swing, the same case (with a different logo) will be available for the Conn CC's too, as they have the same bell & bottom bow.

This of course is all just speculation on my part. Anyone out there from UMI wanna tell?
