These concerns are beat to DEATH in the CBA's hammered-out by most orchestras in the US. They are performance concerns covered by the Tenure Committee as well as the dreaded Peer Review Committee.

If you think that someone who forgets their Inderol for a performance will get fired - well, it just won't happen. However, if ANYONE plays poorly on a consistant basis, one of the two previously mentioned groups initiates proceedings. You would be surprised how many times this ball gets rolling due to concerns held by the Players' Association rather than those of the Music Director of Management. We are surprisingly adept at "policing" ourselves.

Beta Blockers are a part of life when discussing large ensembles. Now, if you're talking about illegal substances - most orchestras have some kind of drug policy in place already.
