When you say "not a musician", do you mean that the other person simply doesn't perform or that s/he is completely unmusical? I know of a young trumpeter here with a spouse who has the latter quality--doesn't listen to, care for, or is interested in music. She begrudges him his rehearsal time and doesn't attend his performances. I don't give that marriage a snowball's chance in hell. Fortunately, they don't plan on having children yet.
Whether it's music or Beanie Babies, interest and support from the other half of the relationship is essential.
