well, i tried one of the CC model horns when i was in the market for my first college horn. always remember that different horns are better or worse for different people. I found that the low register is very very nice. but the upper and mid upper is a little out of whack. If you are going to major in music at a major university you are going to want to look for a 5-valve horn. a 5 valve horn is a necesity for a serious tubist. But the quality and brand of horn also varies with your budget. honestly you are better of to start off on a school CC horn until you can save up some extra money. when you buy a tuba, you hardly even get what you paid for it. so that would be an unnessesary(spelling) purchase.

happy hunting

p.s. check out the Meinl-weston 2145 great horn especially if you get one thats a couple of years old ( make sure you get one with the big valve sections)
