If your comparison of BBb and CC horns is based on comparing the Yamaha 641 BBb and the 661 CC, then you haven't played enough good BBb horns. The two Yamahas are much different in design, with the BBb being, by most accounts (including my own), an indifferent performer. The 661 CC is a wonderful instrument by any terms.

And I've never heard anyone claim that Yamaha horns are ruinously inconsistent--quite the contrary. They have a reputation for consistency. What is inconsistent is the player's response to the horn. Some love them and some hate them, but the ones who love them love them consistently, and the ones who hate them likewise. Of course, I'm not talking about consistency across the line, but from one horn to the next of the same model. The Yamaha models seem as inconsistent as their designers are varied.
