Graham,
Congrats on winning the concerto competition. Here's what *I*'d purchase had I won $250:
Books: -The Tuba Source Book(price is around $80, but worth every penny). The only reference book you'll ever need for the next few decades.
- Arnold Jacobs: Song and Wind(don't know the price, mine was a gift). It's like taking a lesson from Jacobs himself.
CDs: -Arnold Jacobs: Portrait of an Artist(about fifteen bucks). A great CD to own... again, like taking a lesson from Jacobs himself.. and just plain fun to listen to.
-John Griffiths: Canadian Chops... GREAT CD, one of my favourites
-Gene Pokorny orchestral excerpts CD. You'll know why you need it once you start college.
Music: I'd suggest starting your collection of the Torchinski books to supplement whatever etude books you're using. Arban book is OK, William Bell method is a lot better, if you can find it.
Another note, Dave Mason's auction on eBay looks like something worth bidding on.. you should check it out. All the best!
Anthony
