In answer to number 2, I never store my tuba on its bell, even temporarily. I do this not so much because I am worried about "condensation" working down into the valves, but because a tuba sitting on its bell is inherently unstable. I always use a K&M tuba stand for my tuba. I know that when it is in the stand it isn't going to fall over from a careless person walking by it or from someone running into it.
