I think the horn has very little to do with "the best sound". It comes down to hard work and making yoursel play at an extremly loud dynamic, i.e. fff-ffff. It does not sound pretty at first but if you can play at this dynamic, with follow thru, you will have no trouble playing p-ppp with security and a great sound. The Rochut books down 2 octaves is a great way of working on this. Tommy Johnson had me do this as a senior in high school. At that time I was lucky to play a low "F" , but after playing these to the point where I saw double, I could paste low "F" down to pedal B flats, as well as play these notes ppp. Again it's will power and not the horn that will make the low registar work. This is my two cents worth. Take care, JVH
