Go for it. If you aren't afraid to try then you have what it takes. Just don't expect perfect results on your first try. I don't think a big Conn would be a good choice for converting to CC because it has very little cylindrical tubing to begin with. After you remove a couple of feet from the small end the remaining horn will start out with a huge opening where the mouthpiece should go. Look instead for an older instrument with its main tuning slide in the leadpipe, or a german-style horn like a St. Pete with a big long tuning slide below the valves.
