Given the choice between cutting a BBb, and seeing it on the wall of a TGI Friday's, I'd say hack away. If it's a P.O.S. that isn't ever going to be played unless you chop it and give it another chance, why not save an old 2XJ from the smelters. Since school(state)-owned property cannot be sold in most states, maybe you could get a band director to tell you when might be a good time to go dumpster diving behind the band room. Goodness knows there are enough scrap heap candidates in the H.S. band rooms around here. If worse comes to worst, you will have gained some knowledge about cutting horns, and will have a conversation-piece planter for your patio.
