Since the piston does not rotate freely when in use, I wonder whether or not the rotate as you oil method would create an unusual wear pattern on the valve plating (and contribute to the sticky valve problem). I recall reading (perhaps in a Ferree's manual) that valves should only be inserted when they are properly aligned.
