Here's my two cents:
First, you can oil the pistons without unscrewing the caps. Just dribble the oil down the valve stem with the piston depressed a bit.
Second, if you want to convert to front action, think about a Walter Nirschl "Warren Deck style" valve set. It has 19 mm bore for the first 3 and 20 mm for the fourth valve; all the slides can be pulled WAY out with the left hand. I put one on my old Martin a couple of years ago and I really like the result. There is a photo on my tuba-logic website.
As for the bell, just wait until you find the right one. Upright bells do exist for the big Conns, and they are worth waiting for. In the case of my old Martin, I found a Beuscher helicon bell that fit. I had to buy a martin sousaphone bell on ebay just to get the right bell ring, but it was worth waiting for. (I had not yet installed the ring when the photo was taken)
