In all honesty, your question is looking at this in the wrong way. Regardless of what it does for you directly, you just gotta be in it if you want to go anywhere. It's just the way of the professional music world. It isn't a ticket to gigs. It is just a way to get a foot in the door and provide potential. No one really cares about you and whether you play--it's truly cut throat and up to you how long you want to try. Only the best and luckiest survives.
