Did you see the same Bobo I saw in 2000? I saw him at the Regina ITEC and was, honestly, a little underwhelmed. What I *did* get was a lesson in moxie - the guy played in a way that said "yes, I know I'm the bomb - you're welcome!" However, I have to admit that I felt Mr. Bobo's tone and intonation were slightly below my expectations. Don't get me wrong - Mr. Bobo is certainly to be credited for setting the standard (along with Tommy Johnson and Arnold Jacobs and a host of others) for modern tuba tone and technique. But to be honest, I got less than I expected when I saw him perform.
