I can't wait to see what responses this title gets.
I have a Mirafone 1295 CC 4P1RV tuba. I also have a Willson 3400S. I am new to the Mirafone, which I like a lot, but I think it's too big for me. Intonation and air supply suffer. I can get around on the Willson pretty well. My question is ....
Is It Too Big??
I play in a community orchestra (50 or so players) and I like the way the CC tuba works in that ensemble (fingerings, range, covering bass voice for weak String bass player, plus the conductor likes tuba) and I haven't used the Eb there yet. In any other ensemble (quintet, brass band, etc) I would use the Willson
Should I look for a smaller CC tuba or learn to play what I have? PS I am in my mid 30's and have been playing for several years after a long layoff. Thanks in advance for your well-intentioned advice.
